What is ISO 9000

What is ISO 9000: “Canon, Epson, HP and Lexmark announced their support of the new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard for monochrome toner cartridge yield in monochrome laser printers.” InfoTrends, released June 16, 2004

  • ISO 9000 is the name of an internationally agreed upon standard of quality system management created by the International Organization for Standardization. This organization is comprised of the National Standards bodies of over 100 countries. Its goal is to facilitate the international exchange of goods and services and to encourage cooperation in intellectual, scientific, technological, and economic activity. The ISO 9001 Standard consists of twenty elements, which address areas such as management organization, training, purchasing, contract (sales order) review, inspection and testing calibration of instruments, corrective and preventive actions, and internal audits. There are several levels of certification based on the number of elements that are applicable to a business. ISO 9001 includes all twenty elements. ISO 9002 does not include the element for design. We are registered to the ISO 9002 standard for the manufacture of printer ribbons and cartridges for laser and inkjet printers.

  • To claim that its quality system conforms to ISO 9002, the company must be registered by an accredited organization. The registration process includes an intensive two-day audit of all elements of the quality system. In addition, the company must submit to an annual or semi-annual surveillance audit. We have chosen the semi-annual internal as it allows us to review our system more frequently.
